Addicted to War: Shocked and Horrified My great friend Emily thinks we are addicted to shock. I think we’re addicted to boundary conditions.
Protection
If wearing protective clothing doesn’t make you less susceptible to injury, I suggest that the manufacturers are doing something horribly wrong. That study was into whether overall risk of injury was reduced. People have a built in danger level and … Continue reading

Single stage to orbit
I’ve been doing some sums. Take a Saturn S-IVB booster. Lose the Rocketdyne J-2 engine and replace it with a Space Shuttle Main Engine. This gives you an expendable craft that can lift about 5500kg to a 12km/sec orbit.

Not much to report. Yesterday she thought she’d be out of hospital today, but it hasn’t happened, though tomorrow is looking likely. She has been moved to a different room. Yesterday’s X-rays seemed to show no breaks in her legs, … Continue reading

Crunch
Jasmine was involved in a motorcycle accident yesterday evening. She’s going to be fine: A broken collarbone and smashed finger, and bruising-etc., and generally not a happy bunny. As of last night we were expecting her to be let out … Continue reading
Native bitmap processor
A vector processor in which the basic information type is not an integer or ‘register’ but rather a bitmap of a suitable size, ie, two-dimensional bitmask object. The execution flow in such a processor would be two-dimensional, having a current … Continue reading

Hello
This is the first posting on my notblog. (It’s not a blog. Honest.) I really wanted somewhere to write down the random ideas that keep coming to me. That’s here.
