deletion

I’ve changed my mind.

i thought the future was augmentation.

now,

i think the future is deletion
we build machines now not to add things to our lives, but to delete the worthless

tivo to delete the crap from tv
spamassassin to delete the spam from our mailboxes
answerfones to delete the ex-girlfriends from our lives
ECUs to delete servicing from our cars
cars to delete other people from our commute
suburbs to delete the city from our homes

it’s all about deletion

it happened when we had everything we needed.

of course we’ll never have everything we want.

what does the news media delete? truth? curiosity?

I think it deletes doubt, even when it leaves gaping holes, it presents a picture of completeness.

or maybe it is deletion of things we don’t want ? so we use ‘machines’ to do that then we ourselves having to censor things.
