Yes, that's right. I have Huge, Huge Debts. While I'm finally bringing them under control, this leaves me little or no money for- well, anything else, really.

So you want money to pay off your debts?

Well, it'd be nice, but really, that would be selfish and unpleasant of me. I'm not looking for that kind of help- my debts are my own problem and it was my own stupid fault I ended up with them. Mostly. The two years without steady employment and the medical problems didn't help at all.

So what is it you want, Jasmine?

Since starting this appeal for help, I've managed to get the little Mac to call my own. This is great, though I had to sell my stereo to make up the difference. You see, I'm not above making sacrifices, and I'm not just another sponging kiddie on the groups. I'm charging an admission fee into the small but somewhat select group of people who get to see what I'm writing.

So you already have a computer?

In addition to the 400MHz G3 that people have helped me buy, I have an elderly Pentium 90. It's a Compaq LTE5100 and it's had an exceedingly hard life. I managed to make it play mp3s, but I had to hack up my own player to do it. It doesn't have a battery any more, just a hole. Needless to say, it can't edit video in timescales of less than a geological era. It belongs dead.

Enough of the sob story. What do you want us to do?

Well, with a laptop with a battery I can spend some of the huge proportion of my life I spend on aeroplanes writing more of my novel.

And this is interesting... why?

If you donate more than 20 euros, I'll send you the first two chapters that I've already written. Sound good? Great. If you donate more than 30 euros, I'll then send you subsequent chapters as I write them, plus my thoughts on the subject matter, plus edits and so forth as they happen. Exciting or what? Well, okay, is that not enough? If you donate more than 40 euros, you'll get the whole release-early-release-often manuscript, *plus* I may write you into the story. Obviously we'll have to chat (email or phone) so that I can get your character down.

What if I don't want a mention?

Then you don't have to have one! A few people have done this. You still get all the good stuff. :-)
